FACES OF EVIL IN EUROPE
Benito Mussolini founded the Fascist Party in 1919. Known as "Il Duce," he was a friend of Adolf Hitler. Mussolini controlled Italy from 1922 to 1945, when he was captured and killed by Allied forces in WWII.
Joseph Stalin controlled Communist Russia from the late 20's until his death in 1953. Stalin's "Great Purge" is estimated to be responsible for 8-13 million deaths because Stalin eliminated anyone who threatened his power.
Adolf Hitler 's early life was marked by dissapointments. After his experience in WWI, he joined the Nazi Party & was jailed in 1923 for trying to seize power.
In 1932 he was elected chancellor of Germany. Hitler wanted to control every aspect of life in Germany. He spoke out against the wrongs in the Treaty of Versailles & the Jews. He promised to make Germany the greatest nation in the world.
Beginning in 1933, Germany passed laws that deprived Jews of their rights. By 1938 , Jews were stripped of their homes, busainesses, and most possessions. They were moved into Ghettos and forced to wear a yellow Star of David patch.
Hitler's "FINAL SOLUTION" was to eliminate the Jews and other people he saw unfit for the the world he believe he would lead. The Holocaust claimed the lives of around 6 million Jews, and in total about 12-14 million people were killed by Hitler's Nazi regime.
